What are my responsibilities as a host?
Not much! Just be present throughout your schedule times, welcoming musicians and attendees. Maybe do a few headcounts, help musicians collect tips, and attend to basic musician needs. Mostly, you should bask in the performances!
Can I request specific performers?
Yes! On the host sign-up form, you can indicate if you'd like to host specific performers. If you don't have specific performers in mind, we'll match you with musicians based on your space, amenities, and the performers' needs.
Do I need to provide anything for the musicians?
While not required, hosts are encouraged to provide water for performers. Hosts can feel free to offer their musicians some light snacks, though that's completely optional. If you have electrical outlets, instruments, or sound equipment — that's helpful, though not required. You offer what you can: We'll schedule performers whose needs match what you can provide.
Do I need to provide food or drinks for attendees?
No, providing food or drinks for attendees is not expected. Some hosts choose to offer seating (e.g., chairs, benches), trash bins, or light refreshments (e.g,. lemonade). But that's completely optional.
How many people should I expect?
Attendance can vary depending on the performer, your location, and the time slot. Generally, hosts can expect anywhere from 15-50 people at a time, though popular acts may draw larger crowds. Attendees typically move between venues throughout the evening.
What if I can only host for part of the event?
That's perfectly fine! On the host sign-up form, you can indicate the specific time slots when your space is available. We'll schedule performers accordingly. We appreciate any time you can offer, whether it's for the entire event or just a portion.
What if it rains?
Porchfest is a rain or shine event! If your space is covered (like a porch or garage), that's ideal. If not, some hosts provide canopy tents to protect performers from light rain. In case of severe weather, we'll communicate any changes or cancellations through our website.
Any noise concerns?
We ask all hosts to give a heads-up to their immediate neighbors. Performances end by 8 PM to minimize late-night noise. If you have specific noise concerns, let us know in your registration form.
How will people find my location?
Your property/venue will be listed on the online maps. No names or contact information — just Address + Band Names + Schedule. If you'd like, we'll provide you with a yard sign to help direct attendees. We also encourage you to decorate your space to make it festive and visible!
